It was a red-letter day for the Uruguayan community in Australia on Sunday, 24 August when they celebrated the annual Uruguayan Independence Day.
Approximately 6,000 members of the Uruguayan community including friends from the Latin American community participated in the whole-day event held at the Fairfield Showgrounds in Fairfield NSW. Community organisation Uruguayos Unidos was behind the event which featured traditional Uruguyan music, dances, costumes, food and the much-celebrated annual artists’ parade.
