The different date and new venue didn’t deter Sydney’s Filipino community from going out and showing their true ‘Pinoy’ colours at the Fiesta Kultura 2009 held on 18 October at the Fairfield Showgrounds.
Now on its 21st year, the Sydney Filipino Fiesta is acknowledged as one of the biggest ethnic community gatherings in NSW, attracting up to 20,000 attendees each year.
It was a celebration of everything that is Filipino – songs, dances, entertainment, food, games and spending time with family and friends in a lively, festive atmosphere reminiscent of the local ‘fiestas’ held in barrios across the Philippines.
UBI World TV, which broadcasts the sought after channels, GMA Pinoy TV and GMA Life TV, featuring the top-rating programs of GMA 7 and QTV 11 in the Philippines, set up live TV signals at the venue, giving everyone a sampling of the best Filipino entertainment.
UBI’s innovative booth attracted plenty of attention, not only for its standees of the popular fictional Filipino TV heroine Darna which were a huge hit among children, but also for the best ever Filipino TV offer to be made available in Australia.
UBI’s participation in Fiesta Kultura 2009 as well as its coverage of the event showed UBI’s strong support and involvement with the Filipino community in Australia.
