Around 7,000 people from Melbourne’s Spanish-speaking community and guests came out to celebrate Fiesta de la Hispanidad 2009. The annual event celebrated the culture of Spain and the shared heritage among the Latin and South American communities in Australia.
The fiesta showcased the fascinating facets of Spanish and Latin American culture and traditions, with Johnston Street in Melbourne playing host to an array of Spanish treats. In addition to live entertainment, there were bands, South American folklore, traditional food including paella, churros, asado, lechona, arepas and more. Booths selling traditional South American souvenirs also graced the event.
UBI World TV, the leading provider of the best Spanish TV entertainment which includes top-rating channels from Spain and the Spanish-speaking world, set up a booth and sponsored the event to show its support to the Spanish community.
Despite bad weather which prompted organisers to cancel the parade, the celebration went on and revellers filled Johnston Street with their energetic vibe. Viva Espana!
