Filipino cooks prepare healthy fare

Basement Karaoke Bar & Filipino Restaura - 13/06/2009 - 13/06/2009

Can healthy food be tasty? That’s the challenge posed to five top Filipino cooks who emerged as finalists from among numerous entrants in the recent Healthy and Tasty Challenge 2009 Filipino Recipe Competition in Blacktown NSW.

Filipino Master Chef finalists Aileen Vidal Reardon, Eduardo, Delaguiado, Neria Soliman, Shiela Constantino and Maria Andrea Bermudez-Gonzalez each prepared a Filipino recipe of their choice, tweaked to add zest and provide more healthy and nutritious values to them.

All five cooks showed the judges, led by Bernadette Galing-Aquino, Dietitian in Charge of Auburn Hospital, that Filipino food can indeed be tasty and healthy! But at the end of the challenge, Neria Soliman’s Adobo Supreme wowed the panel, earning her the title ‘Filipino Healthy and Tasty Master Chef 2009’.

The Healthy and Tasty Challenge 2009 Filipino Recipe Competition was part of a wider campaign to increase awareness in the Filipino community of the importance of the recommended healthy eating guideline of 2 serves of fruit and 5 serves of vegetables per day as a means of avoiding chronic diseases.

Behind the competition were Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI) and the Philippine-Australian Community Services Inc (PACSI), with the support of UBI World TV, provider of the best Filipino TV and Radio Service comprising the top-rating GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, DZBB AM and DWLS FM, plus premium English global news and Catholic channels.
