Bankstown Bites a big hit!

- 25/07/2009 - 25/07/2009

It was the most successful Bankstown food festival ever!

More than 35,000 people turned out for ‘Bankstown Bites’ on Saturday, 25 July 2009, making it not only a fantastic day of food and fun, but also the most successful thus far in the five years the annual food festival has been held by the Bankstown City Council.

Perfect weather, enticing Discovery Food Tours and live cooking demonstrations all combined to make for the most memorable, enjoyable and well-attended Bankstown Bites ever.

Bankstown City Mayor Tania Mihailuk led the participants who came from all over Sydney to savour the array of great-tasting food from around the world that is being offered every day, right in the heart of Bankstown. Celebrity Chef, Fast Ed (Ed Halmagyi) whipped up a feast of culinary delights on stage at various times throughout the day and offered tasting samples to audience members for their enjoyment. Festival attendees watched on as Bankstown Sports Club chef, Tony Chayna joined Fast Ed and then later cooked a range of his own treats for all to sample. Budding chef, Hayden Holland also worked the stage with Fast Ed, baking his Cook With Ed competition winning recipe for passionfruit slice.

The seven Discovery Food Tours - including Sweet Treats, European Delights, Asian Explorer and Treats from the Middle East - were crowd favourites, as were the roving and stage entertainment and cultural performances.

‘Bankstown Bites’ is one of Sydney’s most authentic and diverse food festivals. Through its focus on Asian, European and Middle Eastern cuisine, the festival showcased Bankstown’s great cultural and linguistic diversity.

UBI World TV, the leading multi-cultural pay TV and radio broadcaster, gave all participants the opportunity to savour the flavours of the best TV entertainment from around the world through UBI’s live TV signals comprising its range of over 100 of the world’s best channels.

UBI proudly sponsored and covered the event which will be airing very soon on UBI’s in-house produced Arabic TV channel, ANA, the Arabic Network of Australia and New Zealand so don’t miss it!
