On Sunday 29th November 2009, Australia Alevi Cultural Centre celebrated its 18th anniversary and the 2nd Abdal Musa Festival at Wyatt Park, Lidcombe, NSW, with great enthusiasm, joy and happiness and was attended by a large crowd.
Distinguished guests from the Australian Government as well as prominent members of the Turkish community made the event more meaningful with their inspirational messages. Among the dignitaries present were: Hon. Laurie Ferguson, Federal MP for Reid and Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural and Settlement Services; Hon. Barbara Perry, State MP for Auburn and Minister for Local Government and Assisting Minister for Mental Health; and Auburn City Council Deputy Mayor Mr. Izzet Anmak.
The objective of AACC Festival is to keep alive this beautiful Alevi tradition and pass it down to the younger generation, to share and convey many features of Turkish Anatolian/Alevi culture and integrate into multicultural Australian society, and to promote peace and love and a better understanding of cultural diversity through entertainment.
The festival showcased the fascinating facets of Anatolian Alevi culture and tradition with the Alevi Ritual Semah (Swirl), Halay dance, Anatolian Folk dance/performances, children’s Kolbasti dance, variety of Multicultural community cultural dances, songs (Chinese, Aboriginal, Arabic) together with dozens of live Entertainment, well known Turkish performance groups from all over NSW united to celebrate and share uniqueness of diversity in an open-air atmosphere.
Traditional Turkish foods such as Kebabs, Gozleme, Turkish coffee, baklava, Turkish delight and other foods available were devoured by the attendeesin addition to Pilav bulghur which was the main highlight.The children enjoyed the rides, jumping castle, face painting and other activities while the parents danced.

With the theme “Let us all unite as one”,all communities in Auburn, Lidcombe and surrounding suburbs certainly came together and immensely enjoyed this family friendly atmosphere. Unity, charity and harmony regardless of language, religion, race or colour was the focus of this year’s festival.

No doubt, the fantastic effort of the Alevi Cultural Centre (AACC), its community members, representatives, sponsors and everyone involved made the festival a great success.
