AACC marks 86 yrs of Turkish Republic

Democracy, equality and peace - the cornerstone of the establishment of the Turkish Republic 86 years ago - were remembered at a significant event which aimed to keep the spirit of Turkish freedom and unity alive and bring the Turkish community in Australia together.

 

Australia Alevi Cultural Centre (AACC), which has a distinguished legacy of assisting Turkish immigrants integrate into Australian society, hosted the event led by its newly elected president, Veli Aslan.

 

Distinguished guests from the Australian Government as well as prominent members of the Turkish community made the event more meaningful with their inspirational messages. Among the dignitaries present were: Hon. Laurie Ferguson, Federal MP for Reid and Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural and Settlement Services; Hon. Barbara Perry, State MP for Auburn and Minister for Local Government and Assisting Minister for Mental Health; Hon. Renan Sekeroglu, Sydney General Consulate for Republic of Turkey; Hon. Hicham Zraika, Mayor of Auburn City Council; Deputy Mayor Izzet Anmak; Community Relations Commissioner Ezel Jupiter and Turkish Consulate General Renan Sekeroglu.

 

The great leader of the Turkish Republic, Ataturk, was honoured with moving tributes. In addition, the rich and colourful culture and traditions of Anatolia were celebrated with fascinating music, performances and poetry by Turkish youth.
